Panther Racing drivers Vitor Meira and Kosuke Matsuura completed successful qualification runs during the second day of qualifying at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. After making attempts on Pole Day, both Panther pilots are now safely in the field for the 91st Running of the Indianapolis 500.
Matsuura’s No. 55 Panasonic Panther Honda put together the quickest four-lap average on the team, at 222.595 mph. He will start in the middle of the sixth row on May 27th. The former Indy 500 and IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year is now prepared to make his fourth career start in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
Meira will start the race on the inside of row seven after his Delphi Panther team qualified Sunday with a four-lap average of 222.333 mph. Vitor finished 10th in the race last year, his first Indy 500 attempt with Panther Racing. His best career finish at IMS is second place, a feat he achieved in 2005 while driving for Rahal-Letterman Racing.
