Will Power has qualified 13th for the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky today.
Power will start tomorrow’s 200-lap race from the midpack in his #8 Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia machine after setting a solid four-lap average speed in today’s qualifying.
The Australian currently sits 11th in the 2008 IndyCar Series standings and with one of each circuit discipline remaining after the Kentucky event (road course in Sonoma, street circuit in Detroit and oval in Chicago), Power is looking for a strong finish in Kentucky to set-up his run for a top 10 championship position over the last three points scoring races.
Series leader Scott Dixon won the PEAK Motor Oil Pole Award by setting the fastest four-lap average speed in qualifying at the 1.5-mile oval today, ahead of Vitor Meira and Dan Wheldon.
WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY …
Will Power: #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone
“We have a reasonable starting position for the race,” said Power.
“I will be long race with a lot of stops. Hopefully, the Aussie Vineyards crew will have a good clean race tomorrow and I will be able to earn enough points to move into the top-10 standings.”
Craig Gore: Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia
“Will has earned a solid starting position right in the middle of the field,” said Gore.
“The priority is to be there in the end to get maximum points. If some luck goes our way and we get the pit strategy right we could come away with a really good result.”
