The 2007 Indianapolis 500 will find Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (DRR) embarking on a new challenge—fielding a third car for the first time. DRR announced today that they had inked a deal with Roger Yasukawa, who drove for the team in 2005 in 17 events as a single-car effort, to drive the team’s third entry sponsored by Wellman-Corbier Custom Homes.
“Roger did a great job for us in 2005 and we are excited to have him back with us this year, ” said team co-owner, Dennis Reinbold, whose team qualified 2004 Indianapolis champion Buddy Rice and three-time Most Popular Driver Sarah Fisher on Sunday afternoon, May 13, for the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500. “This is the first time we have ever been a three-car team heading into the Indy 500 and we are excited about that. ”
Yasukawa ran his first full IndyCar Series schedule in 2003 for Super Aguri Fernandez Racing, finishing 12th in the IndyCar Series points championship with eight top-10 finishes, and was the runner-up to Dan Weldon in the Rookie of the Year title run. He ran two races for Rahal Letterman Racing in 2004, finishing 10th and 11th at Indianapolis and Motegi. Two of his four Indy 500 runs have both resulted with top-10 finishes.
