Sarah Fisher, of Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR), announced today that she will be “going pink” for this season’s closing race in October. SFR, their primary sponsor Dollar General, and associate sponsors, will be joining with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, in the fight against breast cancer. To kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fisher will put aside her Dollar General yellow for the day, changing all of the branding on her racecar to pink for the Firestone Indy 300 IndyCar Series Championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS).
“We really wanted to partner with Komen to raise funds for breast cancer research and community outreach programs,” said Fisher. “We’re so lucky to have a sponsor like Dollar General that supports our philanthropic efforts. Together, we can broaden our support of Komen for the Cure and further the fight against breast cancer.”
Fisher has always received a lot of attention for being a female pioneer in a male-dominated sport. By using her position as representative for females everywhere, Fisher is hoping to attract attention to this disease that affects about 1 in 8 women in the U. S., alone.
“Breast cancer is a growing global problem that, without a cure, will kill more than 10 million women in the next 25 years,” said Fisher, who today is participating in Peyton Manning’s PeyBack Celebrity Bowling tournament in Indianapolis with other local celebrities. “SFR is committed to helping Komen decrease those numbers. I’ve lost a loved one to breast cancer, and I will do everything I can to help others in their battle.”
In addition to being “On Track For A Cause,” SFR will soon announce an exciting opportunity for Fisher’s fans to get involved in her pink project.
SFR will get “On Track For A Cause” on Fri., Oct. 9, 2009, in their No. 67 pink Honda Dallara in preparation for the Firestone Indy 300. Fisher will race her new Dallara chassis, which she took ownership of last week from Dallara Italy, thanks to sponsor Hartman Oil. Fisher’s best IndyCar Series finish remains second and was achieved at HMS.
