“It’s a royal family, ” Tomas Scheckter said with a hearty laugh.
Scheckter was referring to the heritage of the Vision Racing drivers – himself, Ed Carpenter, A.J. Foyt IV and Davey Hamilton – who hope to qualify and do well in the 91st Indianapolis 500.
Scheckter is the son of 1979 Formula One World Champion Jody Scheckter. Carpenter is the stepson of Tony George, who not only co-owns Vision Racing but also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Foyt is the grandson of four-time Indy champion A. J. Foyt Jr. And Hamilton’s father, Ken, still races and owns a racetrack outside Boise, Idaho.
“Racing’s in our blood, ” Scheckter said. “Obviously, the sport was brought down to us. It’s good that everybody’s got a little bit of that history. “
