Danica Patrick on Career Plan:

At the first anniversary of Danica Patrick’s first and only IndyCar Series win to date in the Indy Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi, speculation continues to focus on whether the series’ most prominent star will return next year or jump to NASCAR.

Patrick indicated last month at Sonoma that she was likely to stay with Andretti Green’s ICS team for 2010, but remained non-committal on the subject at Motegi. Racer

Jeff Belskus is among many in the IndyCar series who hopes Danica Patrick decides to stay with the Indy Racing League and not a make jump to NASCAR after this season.

Belskus, who became the president and CEO of Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July, says the 27-year-old driver is important to the future of the series.

“She’s great for our series,” Belskus said Friday at the Indy Japan 300. “My hope is she’s going to continue being a part of our series. I know she has said winning the Indianapolis 500 is important to her and that it’s a lifelong dream to win that race.”

Patrick’s three-year contract with Andretti Green Racing expires at the end of the season, and although she has indicated she plans to stay put, she sidestepped questions about her future before the race at Twin Ring Motegi.

“I’ll let you know when I make a decision,” Patrick said at a press conference. The Canadian Press
