For three years, Indiana-native Tony Stewart was the king of the Indy Racing League.
Between 1996 and 1998, Stewart was the main attraction among a mass of no-name drivers that were trying to garner interest from fans that had lost interest in open wheel racing in favor of NASCAR. He only had three race wins in his career, but was named the 1996 IRL Rookie of the Year and won the 1997 IRL Championship.
A year later, he made the jump to NASCAR.
But after years of success in the Nextel Cup series, with 29 career wins and two championships, including wins in the Allstate 400 at The Brickyard last year and two wins at Daytona International Speedway, Stewart is frustrated.
