Dan Weldon went out for the final qualifying session in the afternoon, touched grass with his left tire, lost control of his car and shot across the track where there was a wall.
He hit the wall, bounced back across the track and into the infield, where guess who was coming through?
Danica Patrick, attempting to avoid the carnage, had gone into the weeds and ended up T-boning Weldon. Edmonton Sun
“Just one of those things,” said Wheldon. “That was just my mistake. Unfortunately I took Danica with me.”

Indeed he did.
“It looked to me like he was going to stop on the outside of the track so I went inside,” said Patrick. “He kept going. He came straight into the side of me.” Vancouver Sun
