Veteran driver John Andretti has crashed at practice for the Indianapolis 500, the third crash of the day.
Andretti, who had qualified at 221.109 mph, was in danger of being bumped out of the lineup. So he was practicing, trying to find more speed, when he lost control in turn one and hit the wall. He was not injured.
Graham Rahal, the 20-year-old son of former Indy winner Bobby Rahal, had to intentionally spin his car to avoid Andretti’s car. The Associated Press

Sunday’s practice had barely started when Conway appeared to go too low in the second turn and spun, slamming hard into the wall. Conway, a 25-year-old Englishman, was admitted to an Indianapolis hospital to be treated for bruised lungs. A track medical spokesman said Conway was awake, alert and in good condition.
Minutes after the track was reopened for practice, Tagliani lost control in the same turn and hit the wall. Tagliani was released from the track hospital and cleared to drive. Daily Press
The latest crash by Doornbos appeared to be a considerably harder contact with the wall than on Friday. His car spun and slammed into the energy absorbing SAFER Barrier, severely damaging the entire left side of the Dallara. The Associated Press
