Australian Will Power beat Penske teammate Helio Castroneves to capture the Edmonton Indy race and post his first IndyCar Series victory.
Power, of Toowoomba, dominated the race starting on the pole and leading 90 of 95 laps on the Edmonton City Centre Airport track.
“It caps a perfect weekend,” said Power. “I am really enjoying being a part of Penske racing. I am not stressed. I am just taking it one race at a time and doing my best.”
Castroneves’ second place finish gave Penske a one-two finish for the second time this season. AFP
Power, 28, the first-year driver for Penske Racing, finished 1.094 seconds ahead of Brazilian teammate Helio Castroneves.

Penske hired Power as a part-timer this year to replace Castroneves while he was on trial for tax evasion, giving him a bright yellow suit and bright yellow car, instead of the traditional Penske red and white. But Power doesn’t care. He’s having the time of his life.
“I love it. It might look a little bit bright, but if I’m ever around and there’s someone unloading a Penske Truck rental truck, I can walk up and say ‘Need a hand?’
“I’m very happy. I’m really enjoying being a part of Penske Racing.
“I’m not stressed. I’m just taking it one race at a time and doing my best. I have to thank Roger (Penske) for the opportunity. Today was just a great day.”
He was asked, when he got to the interview room, if he thought he was passing his audition to get a full-time ride with the team.

“I’m not sure what more I can do,” he said. “I haven’t been thinking forward, I’ve just been doing each day at a time. That’s one reason I’m enjoying this racing year.
“In the last three years I’ve always been stressing about not having a ride for the next year. This year I don’t have a full-time ride, but I’m enjoying my racing more than ever.” Edmonton Sun
In five races the former Champ Car winner has never been out of the top six.
Power dominated the Rexall Edmonton Indy meeting.
“That’s close to a perfect weekend - a pole position and a win,” he said.
“When you are knocking on the door every week, eventually you are going to have a win.
“One thing I have learned this year is just to be patient, and never look ahead because it seems too bad when you think ahead that you might not have a ride,” Power said. Brisbane Times
