The international karting season reaches its finishing line this weekend at the annual Copa Campeones (Champions Cup) at Vendrell in Spain.
Expected to be at the forefont of the action, is Ashford ace Mackenzie Taylor.
Although he’s just 15 years old, Mackenzie is one of karting’s leading and most popular drivers - and after winning the inaugural Silver Cup in Italy last month, he’s confident that he will be challenging for more silverware come Sunday.
This year’s event will be the first time that the Sunbury Manor school pupil has raced against drivers from karting’s premier class KF1, who are increasingly stepping down into the KF2 category in order to compete.
“To put it into motor racing terms, KF2 is effectively the GP2 of karting. KF1 is therefore, the equivalent of Formula One and has professional drivers in their twenties, who also happen to be the world’s best. So, as you can tell, this weekend will be very tough” he grins.
“The Grand Prix season starts at the end of March and finishes on the 1st November. Those F1 boys have it easy. Karting’s far tougher! ”
