Marne, MI—After battling the rain most of the afternoon, the Boyne at Berlin finally got underway in time for all cars to get track time. Tom Thomas was the fast qualifier in the CRA Super Series and Terry VanHaitsma got quick time in the Coors Light Late Model series. Aaron Pierce won the CRA Last Chance race, so he and second place finisher Fred Campbell transferred to the CRA 125.
The USA Modifieds kicked the night of feature racing off with their 40-lap feature; #05 Greg Fullerton and #99 Jake Meyerink started on the front row. Meyerink grabbed the lead and #78 Travis Eddy was on the move. Caution was on lap 5 for a three-car pile-up at the start/finish line involving the cars of #7 Michelle Sexton, #27 Nyle Weslen and #96 Dan Fraser. Eddy was challenging Meyerink for the lead and #12 Brian Bergaker joined the battle. On lap 14, Eddy took the lead, but Bergaker was able to reel him in. With eight laps to go, Bergaker got a run on the outside, made the pass with five laps to go and took the win by 1.249 seconds over Eddy. The Coors Light Late Model preliminary race was next with #37 Terry Senneker and #222 Caleb Bisacky on the front row. Senneker lead the single-file field, but the caution was out on lap 3 for the spinning car on #29 Chad Finley. On the restart, Bisacky was pressuring Senneker, but the battle to watch was for fourth between #15 Brian Maxim, #82 Tom Thomas and #32 Ross Meeuwsen. Caution came out on lap 23 for debris and on the restart, #12 Tim DeVos was challenging Senneker for the lead, but the caution came out again for a wreck at the start/finish line involving #00 Andy Ponstein and #00 Dave Lake. While under caution, it was found that oil was on the race track, so after a red flag for clean-up, the race got restarted. On that restart, #57 Rick Senneker went off of the backstretch and #1 Randy Sweet spun, so the caution was out again. Once the race got restarted, the cautions were over and T. After jumping the start twice, Hamm was black flagged and send to the back. By lap 3, he was up to eighth and the 4-Cylinders provided an exciting first few laps with lots of bumping and banging. The first caution came out on lap 6 for the #76 Mike Speet, his car was throwing sparks and went off of the backstretch. Just two laps later, #00 Mike Dutcher and #66 Wanye Mills went off of the backstretch. The #31 of Dan Reimersma was leader, but not for long as the #100 of Jason Scheid was stalking him on lap 11 and took the lead on lap 15. Scheid pulled away and got his fifth in of the season. The #50 of Derek Davis hit the wall just past the flagstand. The restart was single-file and DeKraker was able to stretch his lead out to almost three seconds. His lead was erased when Church hit the infield wall on lap 10. The #19 of Ben Kleis stayed on DeKraker’s bumper and made the pass for the lead on lap 11.
