Austin, TX—It’s human nature for us, as people, to “want what we can’t have” or so that’s how the saying goes. For Casey Smith, who was last behind his #99 super late model machine on June 28th, the saying has lived up to its meaning. In June the frustration level had reached its peak. Multiple wrecks caused by other competitors mixed with racing back to back weekends after long hauls from Texas had taken its toll on the team who was in need of a much deserved break.
“This has been the worst year since I’ve been racing for getting my equipment torn up. So the break worked out well for our team. We got to enjoy the Fourth of July and it was nice, but now it’s time to get back to racing. Work has been crazy so this will actually be a good break from work. It’s weird how things work out like they do,” noted Smith.
The Texas native will quickly get his chance as he will return to South Alabama Speedway, the track where Casey picked up his only win of the 2008 season and currently holds a twenty point lead over fellow competitor Grant Enfinger in the championship standings. It’s no secret that the on track battle between the two Viper series championship contenders has gotten fierce over the years.
“If we can have a good run at this next race it will put us in a great position for the last two in September and October. It would make it tough for guys to gain on us, points wise as well. It should be some good racing and I’m ready to get back at it,” stated Casey.
