Defending UMP DIRTCar champ Dennis Erb claimed his second straight win Wednesday at the UMP Summer Nationals at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville.
Erb passed leader Duane Chamberlain to take the lead with less than 10 laps remaining, then held off Rodney Melvin to win.
Melvin started fifth and climbed to a second-place finish, while Gibson City’s Kevin Weaver was third.
During qualifying, Marine’s Mark Voigt ran a lap of 11.467 seconds on the 1/5-mile oval, just .207 seconds off the track record.
Mike Hammerle claimed his first UMP Late Model feature win of the season last Friday at Belle-Clair Speedway. He was followed by Mike Schulte, Michael Kloos, Aaron Kleine and D.J. Cygan.
There also was a new winner in the UMP Modified division as Lenny Bryant posted his first-ever victory in his fifth year of racing. He led all 20 laps. Brett Korves was second, followed by Jim Morrison, Marty Smith and Smithton’s Bobby Bittle.
