POST FALLS, IDAHO – Rich Hatton and Mel Auckerman’s battle for the Fever 4 championship came down to the final laps of the division’s main event during the season finale of Wednesday Night Fever at Stateline Speedway. Auckerman won the race but Hatton finished second to win the title by only two points.
The drivers were separated by two points coming into the finale after a back and forth battle all summer. Hatton jumped ahead by six points by qualifying in the top spot. Auckerman won a non-points awarding dash. In the heat races both drivers failed to finish in a points position.
At the green both darted to the front of the 24-car pack in the 35-lap main event. The championship tied and flip flopped as both progressed forward through a string of early race cautions. On lap 19 both drivers avoided a restart pile up that nearly cost both valuable positions.
At the checkers Auckerman took the win followed by Hatton. Both tied for event points giving the championship to Hatton, the 2005 Road Runner champion, by only two points.
Treven Tarr won both a heat and dash race. Matt Tarr took his third heat race victory. KC Garber took third in the main event followed by Rusty Webb, Craig O’Neal, and Colton Garber.
O’Neal finished third in the standings followed by Andrew McKee and Matt Schoen.
Scott Rupert wrapped up the Road Runner championship setting fast time for the division and finishing third in the main event. Russell Syverson, heat winner, held of a last lap challenge by Tim Benn to take the final race of the season for the class.
Eric Harris won the B Main. Heat winner Mike Hall took the 15-lap C Main. Chuck Davidson, Jamie Allen, Ben Hawk, and Allen Tuckness won dashes. Lance McClellan and Garrett Rupert won heats.
Tim Benn finished second in points followed by Tom Harris, Syverson, and Steve Mathers in fifth. Over 60 drivers participated in the class with 45 taking times for the final event.
Vern Dorsey recorded the final win for the Bump to Pass grand finale over Arron Clother, heat winner Travis Cox and dash winner John Hollingsworth. James Cotter set fast time. Aaron Stein won the b heat.
