It was another beautiful night for racing on Senior Citizens night at Hilltop Speedway and they saw some crowd pleasing action on the track.
The S&S Construction Super Late Model feature started out with dash winner Ryan Markham and Doug Drown starting on the front row and the pair would go wheel to wheel for the first half dozen laps before Markham eased into a two-car length lead over Drown with Lance Elson right in their tracks.
A little farther back in the field, Ty Myers, Justin Chance, Tom Baker, Jason Flory and George Lee were slicing and dicing for top five positioning. Flory was the man on a mission as he started 10th and on lap 10 was up to sixth as Drown kept the pressure on Markham for the lead. At the halfway mark, Flory of Creston, was fifth behind Myers, Elson and the two leaders and on the next two circuits disposed of Myers and Elson and was now third.
The Mcilvane Trucking 02 of Flory overpowered Drown on lap 18 and then pulled alongside the higher grooved Markham with five to go.
As the pair went down the backstretch for the last time, Markham hit the guardrail and twisted the right front wheel, bringing out the caution. On the restart, Flory held off the last chance charge of Drown and Elson to post his second win of 2009. Myers finished a strong fourth with heat winner Chance taking fifth. Mark Gardiner also was a heat winner as George Lee was the quick timer.
Fredricksburg’s Brandon Morrow used his outside front row starting spot to bolt into the lead of the Tri State Modified main event and the Monster Energy Drink schemed car cruised to his first win of the year.
