As a veteran of the O’Reilly All Star Midwest Series, two-time series champion Jerrod Hull knows the importance of getting a good start. Races can be won or lost by getting yourself into the top position and holding on to it. Hull did on Saturday night as he captured the lead with a daring move on the first lap of the race and defended the top position from countless challenges.
On the drop of the Green Flag Hull started third, behind Ty Deckard and Broc Burton, who made up the front row. On that first lap Hull made his move powering past both cars to lead the first lap of the event. Once Hull established himself in the position he never looked back, leading all 30 Laps of the event.
The two main challengers to Hull’s top position were Bill Rose and Randy Hannagan who both took turns in the second position during the event, each making bids to track Hull down. The first caution flag of the night would fly on Lap 8 for a single car incident involving Shane Wade.
Once the Green Flag was unfurled again, Hull shot off like he was shot out of a cannon with Rose and Hannagan on his tail. It seemed as if one car would get a wheel on Hull, he would power back closing the door to anyone who dared to get past. The biggest mover early in the event was AJ Bruns who worked his way up to fifth from his sixteenth place starting position.
A miscue on Lap 14, sent Bruns high on the track and he fell back to the tenth position. Bruns held strong through and worked his way from tenth, back into the top-five by the end of the event. The second caution flag of the night flew on Lap 18 for another single car incident involving the 7b of Brian Lake.
When the final Green Flag flew over the event, Hull looked as if he was on rails, getting a good restart over Rose and Hannagan. From that point Hull had his grasp on the victory and as he led the final laps of the event. At the Checkered Flag it would be Hull picking up the win with Rose, Hannagan, Chris Briscoe and Bruns rounding out the top-5.
The Midwest All Star Series will be back in action on Saturday night September 5th for a Labor Day weekend battle at Quincy Raceway in Quincy, Illinois.
