Advance Auto Parts Limited Late Model rookie Cory Joyce spent a lot of late nights in the shop this past week rebuilding his racer from damage he suffered in a feature race crash last week at Hickory Motor Speedway. All that hard work paid off handsomely as the 16-year-old drove with patience and consistency to finish third at Hickory on Saturday.
Joyce, who is currently second in track points, was all smiles after the 35-lap affair. “This was a really good night,” the youngster said. “The car was really fast. We’ve overcome a lot of adversity over the past few weeks. We got down to business tonight, qualified fourth, and came home with another top three. Now this week we can just work on going faster instead of making repairs.”
The Mooresville, N.C resident says it has taken a total team effort to get him back to a podium finish. “I am so thankful for all of the people who are helping me. I need to thank Chuck, Bob, Mom, Dad, Grandma Lucy and Grandpa Skip and everyone who came and helped out tonight. I really appreciate all of their support and hard work.”
Cory and the No.33 team will be back at Hickory this Saturday, August 15th, for another night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing topped off by a 35-lap feature event.
