A1 TEAM USA has donated 11 Soap Box Derby kits to youth Red Cross volunteers of the National Capitol Area to race in the 66th Greater Washington D. C. Soap Box Derby on June 16.
Before the gravity-powered cars can race, they have to be put together. A1 TEAM USA has organized Assembly Day for Saturday, May 5, from noon to 4 p. m. at Passport BMW auto dealership in Prince George’s County.
Approximately 20 students, ages 9-12, from Dodge Park Elementary School in Landover, Md., will be assisted by A1 TEAM USA owner Rick Weidinger of Washington, D.C., A1 TEAM USA driver Jonathan Summerton, American Red Cross members and D. C.-area Soap Box Derby Executive Director Mike Harrigan. Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell is also expected to attend.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring so much fun and excitement to these D. C.-area children, ” Weidinger said. “We are really looking forward to working with the American Red Cross of the National Capitol Area and with the Greater Washington D. C. Soap Box Derby to make a dream for these children turn into reality.
