Willowbank Raceway regular Brett Stevens has enjoyed the perfect preparation for the season-ending Castrol EDGE Winternationals on June 5-8 by running his first ever sub-six second pass, less than two weeks out from the blockbuster event at the Ipswich facility.
With the largest Drag Racing event outside of North America closing in, Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway has been a hive of activity both on and off the race track in preparation for the iconic Castrol EDGE Winternationals.
The time testing achieved some huge results for the team’s Ford Falcon Top Doorslammers with Stevens recording a string of low 6.0 second quarter mile passes at over 240 mph in his 3000 horsepower Jack Daniel’s Racing machine, before reeling off his first ever ‘five’ with a fantastic 5.99 second pass at 244.04 mph.
“It has been a personal goal of mine for a couple of years now to get that ‘five’ after being so close for so long so I am over the moon,” said Stevens.
“But what is even more exciting coming into the Castrol EDGE Winternationals is the consistency we now have in our setups to run these types of numbers in full race trim without any issues with the car.
“I can’t wait to get back out to Willowbank Raceway in a couple of weeks and try to replicate what we have done over the last few days, the whole team is buzzing with excitement.
“Depending on conditions, we now also have the data and hardware that could potentially put me as well as my team’s other Doorslammer entries of Kath (Stevens) and Steve (Packman) in the 5 second zone all at the same event”.
Stevens has become just the fifth person in Australia to run a five second pass in a Top Doorslammer, with his wife Kath Stevens the fourth in the club after her incredible 5.96s run at the 2008 Summernationals earlier this year.
As well as Brett and Kath Stevens, the Brett Stevens Racing team will also have it’s SP Racing Ford Falcon driven by Steve Packman taking to the track at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals with the goal of having all three of it’s Top Doorslammers running ‘fives’ in competition.
The Top Doorslammer category is just one of the many classes set to hit the quarter-mile at Willowbank Raceway come June 5-8, with all of the Group One action of Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle and Top Bike complimented by a bumper support program of Group Two and Three competition including everything from Super Gas to Supercharged Outlaws to Junior Dragster to Street Sedans.
With championships in many of the categories set to be decided at the Queensland hit-out, emotions are set to run high with thrilling passes guaranteed for spectators.
