Drag racing fans will have the chance to meet their favourite quarter-mile pilots at Ipswich’s Riverlink Shopping Centre this Thursday night as the Castrol EDGE Winternationals kick off nearby at Willowbank Raceway.

To launch the Queen’s Birthday weekend celebrations (June 5-8), a number of the Group One stars will meet up with fans to sign autographs and answer questions on the opening night of what is the largest Drag Racing event held outside of North America.

The Top Fuel machine of local Steve Read will be on display, and drivers from Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle and Top Bike will be on hand to help launch the season-ending event.

Miracle Top Fuel racer Phil Lamattina and local star Steve Read, as well as Brisbane’s Steve Reed of Top Alcohol fame and Pro Stock brothers Aaron and Tyronne Tremayne and the infamous Brett Stevens are just some of the names expected at Riverlink come Thursday with over 15 drivers set to make an appearance.

Kicking off at 6.30pm the launch in ‘East Mall’ (outside of Mr. Toys) will feature Question and Answer sessions with all of the attending drivers and the opportunity for fans to chat to them personally, have their photo taken or receive an autograph.

With the Willowbank Raceway action continuing through to Sunday the 8th of June, the stars of Group One in Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle and Top Bike will be complimented on-track by a bumper support program of Group Two and Three competition including everything from Super Gas to Supercharged Outlaws to Junior Dragster to Street Sedans.

With championships in many of the categories set to be decided at the Queensland hit-out, emotions are set to run high with thrilling passes guaranteed for spectators.

Fans and crew members at this year’s Castrol EDGE Winternationals will also have the opportunity to test drive the new-and-improved Willowbank Raceway.

There will also be a show of sports cars, from 1969 and earlier, obviously, that raced, or could have raced at Meadowdale. To complement that, a Spectator Car display area will showcase street sports cars, hot rods, customs, and bikes from the ‘50s and ‘60s.
