First Scottish Motor Sport Show A Success

The first ever Scottish Motor Sport Show has been judged a success after and estimated 15,000 fans flocked to Lanark Agricultural Centre over the weekend of 24-25th February.
The show – brainchild of Scottish motorcycle legend Robbie Allan, who at 65 started the year by competing in the gruelling Dakar Rally – combined the best of motorsport on both two and four wheels.
Stars of motorsport mixed with static displays of cars and bikes from the past and present, with two live action areas to entertain the crowds.
Jimmy, Colin and Alister McRae were in action on the Alister McRae Rally Experience where they took competition winners for a spin on a rally stage which has been built especially for the show. Colin McRae also wowed the crowds by demonstrating a high speed lightweight Rage Buggy.
The Fast and Modified Live Arena featured world-ranked Trials rider Steve Colley and Russ Swift’s car display team, Swift being the man behind the world famous Austin Montego adverts of the 1980s.
Renault’s latest Formula One car livery was on show as well as former Scottish F1 driver and sportscar star Allan McNish and his Le Mans Audi R8, McNish taking time out from a busy season ahead to sign autographs.
Eight-time Isle of Man TT winner and lap record setter Jim Moodie was there as well as the LCC Trials including Scottish Ultimate Champion Gary MacDonald.
Matthew Wilson, son of rally legend Malcolm Wilson and Britain’s only full time driver in the World Rally Championship, was in action on the rally stage he came to the show fresh from last weekend’s Rally Norway.
Wilson competed in a Quad bike race against the likes of British Rally Champion Mark Higgins, Alister McRae, John Crawford and Robbie Head. The public could go head to head against Matt too, but on computer game rather than in the real thing!
Young motorcycle stunt sensations Jonathan Pearson and Sean Vukovic wowed the crowds by jumping a moving Eddie Stobart lorry on both days, whilst Robbie Allan himself had the bike and support lorry from his recent foray on the Dakar.
A particular attraction was the 4x4 experience with V8 powered monsters tackling the course. However, World Rally Radio star Colin Clark had one of the best experiences of the weekend, by having to commentate on Colin McRae driving a Metro 6R4 when sat beside the rally star. To say the crowd found Clark’s reaction to McRae’s driving amusing was something of an understatement.
