The two drivers of Prema Power team had a good time through the tricky streets of Pau (France) in the third round of the 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series. Prema cruised to a duble podium finish in the second race of the weekend. Pau, located near the Pyrénées, in southern France, has become one of the most distinctive street venues around Europe, and one of the oldest too, since the first race took place in 1933. Thanks to the 8th place scored on Race 1, Renger Van Der Zande had the chance to start out front, and ended up in 2nd after an all-race long battle, complicated by the inclement weather that forced drivers to deal with rain at different times.
Thanks to the runner-up finish, Van Der Zande also took third place in standings. Spaniard Dani Clos experienced the joy of a podium finish for the first time this season. The 20-year-old from Barcelona was coming from a 6th place in Race 1. Unfortunately, Charlie Kimball had a tough weekend, as he was caught into the mid-pack on Race 2 after touching the barriers on Saturday.
Angelo Rosin - Team Principal
“Having two drivers on the podium on an hard place like Pau is definitely like a good result for us. Renger and Dani were able to avoid committing mistakes and deal with a damp and changing racetrack. We’ll be trying to repeat in the forthcoming round at Norisring, eyeing a win on Nurnberg’s street track.”
Renger Van der Zande
“I’m really happy to have scored a second-place finish here at Pau, and for the third place in standings. After experiencing a difficult qualifying session, we recovered in the two races, doing the best we could, and it paid off. The team is working in an awesome way, as shown by the podium scored by our other car”
Dani Clos
“We had some troubles during qualifying, and it seemed quite difficult to eye podium at the beginning. Fortunately, the weather turned the race in something crazy at times. I tried to stay clean on Race 1, with the sole goal of seeing checkered in a good position. Thanks to Saturday’s sixth place, I took off from row 2: I kept third place all the way to the end despite the inclement weather, and I’m so proud of it. I want to thank the team for their constant, valuable and tireless support”
