The rainy clouds announced since Thursday finally teared the first drops this morning, just in time for the World Series Renault’s qualifications at Monte Carlo. With a wet but drying track, Prema Powerteam’s Miguel Molina and Alvaro Barba, starting their efforts in the B Group, exited the pits on rain tires, with Barba taking the lead immediately. The asphalt then dried soon, and Molina had a great feel in entering the pit-lane for slicks when necessary.
Unfortunately, he made a mistake at Saint Devote during his last flying lap, losing the chance to fight for pole after taking an early lead. Alvaro Barba committed a mistake too, touching the barriers while still on wets. The Spaniard damaged his rear suspension, losing the chance to make an attempt on ideal conditions. Molina will take off from Row 5, Barba from Row 8, as the only race of the weekend will be starting tomorrow at 11:00.
“We’r e a bit disappointed for the occasion we lost. Starting from front row is necessary to fight for victory here at Monte Carlo, and both our drivers proved that it was a possible result. Unfortunately, a slight contact by Barba and an error by Molina compromised a possible positive outcome. Since forecast shows rain for tomorrow, I think everything will be possible though.”
