Madison International Speedway promoter Dave Grueneberg can’t help but be excited about the 2007 season opener set for Sunday, May 6th. “We’ve spent a lot of time getting everything ready from putting our schedule together, getting the facility in shape, and basically making sure everything is set to go. Now it’s time to go racing! ” And what a fantastic show Grueneberg has lined up for the opener.
Highlighting the racing program will be the Wisconsin Challenge Series (WCS) featuring some of the top super late model drivers in the midwest. “The WCS contests at MIS last season were exciting and dynamic, with last lap passes and some wild racing taking place. No doubt this season will again provide racing action for all fans to enjoy, ” said WCS series director Jeff Sachse.
Who could forget last year’s thrilling finish. Nathan Haseleu appeared to be on his way to win his fifth straight WCS event as he led Dave Feiler and Steve Carlson going into the final lap. With a lapped car low on the track the two leaders were forced to go by on the high side coming out of turn four. Unfortunately for Haseleu and Feiler they made hard contact with the wall opening the door for Carlson who took the checkered flag in one of the memorable finishes in MIS history.
