Howlett faces $26,000 car repair bill

Doug Howlett will be forced to cough up more than $26,000 for his booze-fuelled antics - and the British man who owns the late-model BMW the All Black trashed is adamant he still wants an apology.

New details of Howlett’s drunken rampage have emerged - including that witnesses say the winger wore a hotel planter on his head during the car-smashing.

He jumped on two cars outside Heathrow airport’s Hilton Hotel after drinking with teammates and management following the World Cup quarterfinal defeat to France.

Scotland Yard has dropped charges against him.

Human resources director David Poole, 52, from Nottingham, returned from overseas to find the roof of his 2005 BMW 3-series caved in and dents on the bonnet - with repairs amounting to 5000.

The NZRU has estimated the total repair bill for both cars is £10,000 (NZ$26,670) - which will come out of Howlett’s pocket.
