ING Renault F1
After the disappointment of Monaco, the ING Renault F1 Team heads to Montreal this weekend for the seventh round of the world championship: the Canadian Grand Prix. The team will be targeting another competitive weekend as both Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet look to realise the potential of the R28.
It’s a new circuit for Nelson and he will have to concentrate on learning the track on Friday, but Fernando has always gone well here and won the Grand Prix as recently as 2006 for Renault. However, the priority for the team must be to come away with some points and strengthen its position in the world championship.
The first low downforce test of the season
The Canadian Grand Prix will see the R28 race in low downforce specification for the first time this year. The circuit is very much stop-start and the combination of long straights and tight chicanes put enormous energy through the braking system. Using the curbs is also essential for a fast lap time, but the drivers will need to be wary of those walls which have claimed many victims over the years. All-in-all it’s a demanding circuit which usually delivers an exciting race.
