Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and 2006 Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert visited Lernerville Speedway last Friday and Saturday for the Inaugural ‘Firecracker 100’ sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. On Sunday the team headed south to Portsmouth Raceway Park for the ‘Pepsi 75’ sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The following Wednesday Covert made his way back up north for the MACS sanctioned ‘Lake Erie Independence Day 50’ at Eriez Speedway in Hammett, PA.
Jason’s uneventful weekend started off at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA for the ‘Firecracker 100’. Covert set the ninth quickest time out of the stout 60 car field. The time put Jason at the front of the third heat to start but was unable to hold onto a transfer spot at the finish. Jason was a tick off both days at Lernerville and missed transferring to the 100-lap main event by one position but did qualify for the 30-lap $3,000 to in ‘Uncle Sam 30’. Covert would finish a solid fourth in the 30 lapper behind Kentucky’s Josh McGuire, Chad Ruhlman, and fellow MACS competitor Matt Lux.
On Sunday the team found themselves at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH for a 75-lap, $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. After finishing fifth in his heat, Jason was regulated to the B-Main. Covert finished third in his heat behind nationally known racers Brian Birkhofer and Jimmy Owens. Unfortunately for Jason, only two drivers transferred to the main event.
The following Wednesday, July 3rd, BK Motorsports continued on the MACS trail with a visit to Bobby Rohrer’s Eriez Speedway in Hammett, PA. Covert was finally able to shake the monkey off his back by dominating the evening’s events. Jason qualified third, won his heat race, won the dash, as well as leading all 50 laps of the main event.
“I could tell in practice that we were going to be good tonight. The car was good, it wasn’t the best car I have ever had but this (Eriez) is my type of racetrack. Not to mention that things went our way tonight, ” laughed Covert from his shop in York Haven, PA. “We finally had a good qualifying run which kind of set the tone for the night. We have struggled early in events but tonight everything fell into place. It’s nice to get a win to help get us back on track. Hopefully we can keep this momentum and have a strong run at Bedford in two weeks, ” concluded Jason.
BK Motorsports and Jason Covert would like to announce that their American Diecast Company (ADC) diecast replica’s of the Barry Klinedinst Motorsports/ Pre-Mach, Inc. /Red Wing Shoes/Hershey’s Racing Engines/Baker Carburetion/Bam’s Auto Center/Kuppy’s Diner/Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo Yellow #43A have arrived and are available for purchase at their trailer as well as the MACS souvenir trailer at all MACS sanctioned events.
