No driver won more of them in 2006 (six) than the babyfaced star when he raced his way into the Chase. After more than a year when nothing seemed to go right for the popular Kahne, consecutive trips to Victory Lane could give him the momentum needed to make a push up the standings.
“We needed a little boost. We got that,” Kahne said at Pocono Raceway. “I think everybody feels like we have a pretty strong company and pretty strong race cars, and we can keep building on that.”
Kahne is coming off back-to-back victories at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the Sprint All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600 and says he’s back, baby.
He’s the sixth driver in NASCAR history to win the all-star race and the Coca-Cola 600 in the same year.
Kahne said it wasn’t really the racing at Lowe’s that has turned things around. It was a hastily scheduled open test there where things began to pop for the team and driver.
“I feel like ever since that Charlotte test, the last three weekswe’ve had better cars,” Kahne said. “I think we learned some things.
Kahne left Charlotte sitting 12th in the points standings and with hope
This week’s race is at Dover International Speedway. Traditionally, that has not been a great place for Kahne as he has just one top-10 finish in eight starts.
Still, Kahne thinks his cars are good enough that he can keep his roll intact.
“I think we’re finally getting to where hopefully we can contend at a lot of these racetracks, be in the top 10 and have a shot,” Kahne said.
