They look like glorified Power Wheels toys, with their candy-colored paint jobs and tiny tires, but Ed Peters gets serious speed out of his mini cup cars.
The half-size race cars, built in his Mini Cup Motorsports shop in Gibsonville, hold their own on the race track.
Just this weekend, Peters took first place in the Southeast American Mini Cup Series Championship. It’s the first championship win in his eight years building and driving for the American Mini Cup Series, making the 45-year-old officially the area’s fastest resident.
