The former Indianapolis 500 champion and Formula One winner’s desire for rejection is more proof of his accelerated acclimation to NASCAR.

As the disapproving jeers grew louder each week last year, Montoya divined something that past champions Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt and Darrell Waltrip learned long ago: As long as the crowds are making noise — whether it’s vitriolic or vindicating — you’re getting the job done. “Hey, I’d rather have boos than get ignored,” Montoya said. “If you’re getting booed, it’s because people are paying attention. The only guy who doesn’t get booed is (Dale Earnhardt) Junior. Everybody else is either booed or ignored. I guess I’m doing pretty good there.”USA Today
