Pit Stop In London's West End

One week before the grand finale at Brands Hatch, the A1GP Series is presenting itself to the public in London. On Sunday, April 27th, Lower Regent Street in the West End district of the British metropolis will look like a finish straight of a circuit when the cars of all the 22 countries participating in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport will be lined up.

The Swiss delegation includes team principal, Max Welti, team manager, Michael Schneider, driver, Neel Jani and some mechanics. They are expecting a prominent visitor: Alexis P. Lautenberg, Switzerland’s ambassador in Great Britain, will visit our Swiss national motor racing team, the A1 Team Switzerland, in the “paddock”.

In Lower Regent Street from 11.00 till 17.00 h, racing fans can look forward to everything that makes their heart beat faster: live interviews on a large stage, highlights from the season on huge video walls, numerous national stands along the street, interactive competitions and not in the least the start of an A1GP car.

Two Ferrari 599 GTB that are being used as safety cars during the race weekends will also be on display. Recently, the organisers of the World Cup of Motorsport and Ferrari have signed a six years’ partnership deal which, among others, includes the supply of engines from the 2008/2009 season getting underway in September and a co-operation in the construction of the new chassis.

Well prepared, the Swiss team will head on to Brands Hatch, close to London, where the final two of 20 rounds of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport will take place on May 4th. Given the margin of 29 points over New Zealand, Switzerland is in the final corner in the battle for the title. A seventh place finish will be enough for Neel Jani to claim the title, even when New Zealand’s Jonny Reid would win both races and would set the fastest race lap on both occasions.
