Qwik Liner Cup: Dollansky, Stewart & Saldana All Chasing $5,000 Title

Shane Stewart

Concord, NC— One race, one driver, one lap in less than 12 second and $5,000. That is what awaits three drivers Friday, May 30 as they will battle for the title in the inaugural Qwik Liner Cup at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

Three drivers have a mathematical shot at winning the title, with Craig Dollansky leading Shane Stewart by just three points, with Joey Saldana five markers behind. Last season in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Attica, Dollansky was third in time trials, with Saldana fifth, while Stewart was mired in 43rd. The track record at Attica is 11.306 seconds, a mark that was set in 1998 and still stands today.

The Qwik Liner Cup celebrates the 20th anniversary of Qwik Liner by rewarding the top Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series qualifiers over the first 13 races. The Top-Five drivers in time trials have received points in the Qwik Liner Cup at each event this season, with the fastest qualifier earning five points, with each subsequent driver receiving one point less, down to the fifth-place driver in time trials receiving one point.

After setting fast time in the opening event of the season at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida back in February, Dollansky had led the Qwik Liner Cup from the outset. He has earned points in six of the first 12 events this season, including an impressive streak that saw him qualify first or second in the first five events of the season.

Stewart has closed the gap over the course of the last three events. He set fast time at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 23, and followed that up with a second-place effort at Virginia Motor Speedway the next night. He leads the series with three fast time honors, coming at Volusia Speedway Park and Manzanita Speedway in addition to being fastest at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway last Friday night before a LIVE audience on SPEED.

Saldana, who is third in the Qwik Liner Cup standings, has set fast time twice this year. First at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania, where he is the track record holder, and then at Virginia Motor Speedway in the series inaugural visit to the high-banked half-mile last Saturday night.

Jason Meyers, the current Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series point leader along with two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz round out the Top-Five in the Qwik Liner Cup standings.

A total of 24 different drivers have earned points in the Qwik Liner Cup during the first 12 events of the season, including 15 of the 18 full-time drivers with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
