Qwik Liner Cup Points Tighten With Only Two Races Remaining

Shane Stewart

Concord, NC— The battle for the inaugural Qwik Liner Cup is heating up with just two races remaining in the competition, with the winner set to pocket $5,000. The Qwik Liner Cup celebrates the 20th anniversary of Qwik Liner by rewarding the top Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series qualifiers over the first 13 races.

The Top-Five drivers in time trials have received points in the Qwik Liner Cup at each event this season, with the fastest qualifier earning five points, with each subsequent driver receiving one point less, down to the fifth-place driver in time trials receiving one point.

Craig Dollansky has led from the outset, after setting fast time on opening night at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida back in February. The native of Elk River, Minnesota qualified first or second in each of the first five Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events this season to build a big lead early on in the competition.

Over the course of the last two races, Shane Stewart has cut the lead to just three markers, with only Rolling Wheels Raceway Park tonight and Attica Raceway Park on Friday remaining before a winner is crowned. The native of Bixby, Oklahoma leads the series with three fast time honors this season, at Volusia Speedway Park, Manzanita Speedway and The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway. He was second in time trials last Saturday night at Virginia Motor Speedway.

Joey Saldana, who has two fast time honors to his credit this season, including in the series inaugural visit to Virginia Motor Speedway, is third in the Qwik Liner Cup standings. He is five markers out of the lead, with Jason Meyers and Donny Schatz just behind him. Schatz also has set fast time twice in 2008. Each of the Top-Five drivers still has a mathematical chance at winning the Qwik Liner Cup.

A total of 22 different drivers have earned points in the Qwik Liner Cup during the first 11 events of the season, including 13 of the 18 full-time drivers with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

Remaining tracks in the competition include the 5/8-mile Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York which is the fastest track the series visits all season by way of average speed in time trials, and the blazing fast high-banked 1/3-mile Attica Raceway Park in Ohio where the series will compete on Friday, May 30.
