Red Bull Skoda Team will not participate in the 2007 World Rally Championship
Skoda Auto will devote next season to prepare their new Super 2000 project
Independent of this decision, Red Bull and its partners will search for a way to continue to run Andreas Aigner in the 2007 WRC
Skoda Auto will set up their new Super 2000 project based on the Fabia next year and therefore pool all its development capacities for the sport of rallying on it, Skoda Auto announced in a press release today.
They also declared that no further resources would be available to continue this year’s operation of Red Bull Skoda in the World Rally Championship with the (now discontinued) WRC in association with Team Baumschlager Rallye & Racing into the 2007 season. Consequently, the sole representative of the Skoda brand in next year’s WRC will be Czech driver Jan Kopecky.
This decision also automatically raises the issue of the future within the sport for talented Red Bull youngster Andreas Aigner, who drove for the team in ten WRC events this year and who has been able to prove his exceptional driving talent at the wheel of his Skoda WRC on several occasions. Red Bull has taken prompt action and is pleased to announce that their driver will continue to be supported. At present, Red Bull and its partners are trying to put together a package in time to see the Austrian in the 2007 WRC.
