Valentino Rossi produced a dominant performance to win the Italian MotoGP at Mugello and extend his lead in the world championship standings.
Seven-time champion Rossi had over two seconds to spare over reigning champion Casey Stoner with Dani Pedrosa of Spain in third place.
Rossi currently leads the overall standings on 122 points, 12 clear of Dani Pedrosa. Jorge Lorenzo is third still stuck on 94 points after crashing out.
Rossi has won every Grand Prix of the MotoGP era at Mugello and made it seven in a row at the historic circuit with a dominant display aboard his Fiat Yamaha.
The 29-year-old has now won the last three races of the season to put him in pole position to regain his crown after a difficult few years.
Another Italian, Marco Simoncelli, took the 250cc race while Simone Corsi made it a clean sweep for the home crowd with victory in the 125cc class.
Spainiard Pedrosa finished in third on a Honda, while Alex de Angelis from San Marino, also aboard a Honda, managed to come home in fourth after starting on the fourth row of the grid.
Before the halfway point there were a number of riders withdrawing from the action. First out were Marco Melandri and Randy de Puniet, both sliding off track whilst battling amongst themselves.
They were followed by Kawasaki rider John Hopkins and, in a blow to his world title chances, second Fiat Yamaha rider Lorenzo. A lowside by the Spaniard left him with a DNF mark by his name for the first time in his MotoGP career.
