So Danica, What's up With The Boiling Blood?

Danica Patrick, in her brief four-year career, has gained a reputation as not only one of the leading American racers but also as a gorgeous, hot-tempered drama queen.

She has ruffled feathers along the way with her theatrics, and has turned heads with her sex-pot looks that have been delectably depicted in FHM Magazine in 2003 and this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

Patrick’s disposition has drawn a lot of scrutiny. She has made, or attempted to make, contact with fellow drivers as much off the track than on:

• In 2005 at Fontana, she and Jaques Lazier exchanged words, and some say punches, after a turn four incident in the season-finale;

• In 2007 at the Milwaukee Mile, she and Dan Wheldon made contact. After the race, she confronted Wheldon, grabbing his arm and giving him a shove;

• In 2008 at Mid-Ohio, Patrick also had a row with another female driver, Milka Duno, after a morning practice session. Duno twice threw a towel that hit Patrick’s left shoulder.

• At the 2008 Indianapolis 500, Ryan Briscoe seemed to be at fault when he clipped Patrick’s car coming out of the pits, taking her out of the race. She immediately made a beeline toward Briscoe’s pit, but was intercepted by security.
So, Danica, what’s up with the boiling blood?

“I am tough, I am driven,” she said. “I’m kind of a no BS kind of a person. I don’t mind if people think that I’m tough. But like anybody who is tough, you walk a fine line of being too tough, (doing stuff) that is offensive.

Tony Kanaan is Patrick’s teammate on Andretti Green Racing. He said Patrick is no different than any other driver - male or female - in this regard.

“I stand up for myself,” she said. “I think there are drivers that do that, girl or guy. I think there are going to be, for a long time, male and female double standards. Traditionally, women are much more quiet and don’t speak up and, traditionally, they haven’t always been race car drivers.”

Patrick, who is married without children but with a dog named Ricky Bobby, doesn’t appear to need work on her appearance.

The pictorials for FHM and Sports Illustrated have been tasteful in the sense that she is not nude, but nevertheless somewhat racy.

“It is another element of me,” Patrick said. “While I’m tough, I’m also girlie and sensitive. I love being on the track and not being made up, and then I love being made up. I’m fun and dynamic. I’m not just one-sided. It’s just another piece of the Danica puzzle that is being sexy, beautiful, feminine.”

“She is that race car driver that kicks butt and she is hot,” said Kanaan, when asked what he believes people think when they see Patrick’s sexy photos.
