The 31-year-old has since met with representatives from Honda and, although nothing has been finalised, he revealed that the Japanese manufacturer would like to retain their association with him.
“No plan as yet,” Sato said.
“It is a blank sheet of paper. I did feel they [Honda] would like to be associated with me but that does not necessarily relate to their F1 project. I believe I can bring out my best performance. I proved what I could do with Aguri. I am still competitive so I am looking for a way to come back to F1.”
“But I am not that desperate to race at any cost this season. If there is a chance I would like to, but if 2009 is better opportunity I will wait.”
“I have massive respect for everything that Aguri-san has done for us; he has worked so hard to keep things going. I will also never forget all the team members who have put so much effort into this team and would like to thank them for what was achieved it the short life of the SAF1 team. It is incredible to think that just one year ago we scored our first ever point and the emotion and excitement of that moment has turned to such disappointment just one year on.”
Japanese driver Takuma Sato at Monaco attended his first Grand Prix weekend since Super Aguri folded prior to the Istanbul race earlier this month.
He had been given a paddock pass by Formula One’s Japanese tyre supplier, Bridgestone.
“I do not want to retire but at the moment I do not know in what way I will be coming back,” Sato said.
