Tony Kanaan hasn’t talked with Marco Andretti since their Indianapolis 500 dustup. But he has spoken with Danica Patrick, and his advice to both Andretti Green Racing teammates seems the same:
Think before you act.
Kanaan said he told Patrick she might want to compose herself for five minutes after incidents such as her collision on pit road with Ryan Briscoe during the 500. Knocked out of the race, Patrick stomped toward Briscoe’s pit stall before being intercepted by the IndyCar Series head of security.
“My whole point to her was, ‘I understand you’re frustrated and probably wanted to chat with him, but you’re a lot bigger than that,’ “ Kanaan said. “ ‘You represent this sport so well. Every … person in that grandstand cheers for you, so maybe sometimes you need to try to cool down before you do something, because it can cost us later on.’ “
“We don’t have a choice here,” he said. “We’re going to be in good terms no matter if we agree or disagree. We represent a big team, we have big sponsors to report to and we have a championship to win as a team. We’ll sort it out for sure.”
