Don Kazarian’s famous Perris Auto Speedway will host a sprint car doubleheader this Saturday night when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the California Lightning Sprint Cars. The first 200 fans will receive a free Power of Purple foam hand courtesy of the American Cancer Society. Saturday will be the third of five straight “Power of Purple Nights” as the track strives to raise $15,000.00 (or more) for the fight against cancer. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
Ventura, California’s Cory Kruseman, who leads both the USAC/CRA and the Perris People’s Championship Point Fund standings, scored his third win of the season two weeks ago when the series made its last appearance at The PAS. The 37 year old is the only repeat winner in the series this year. The 2006 USAC/CRA champion has three wins and all three have come on the Riverside County clay oval.
Norco, California’s Tony Jones and “Showtime” Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria, California, who finished second and third to Kruseman two weeks ago, will both be on hand to challenge the points leader again on Saturday. Jones, the 2007 USAC/CRA champion is running a limited schedule in 2008 and is seeking his first win of the season. Sheridan, 33, won the USAC/CRA main event at The PAS on March 8th and last Saturday won the Bandit Sprint Car main event at Santa Maria Speedway (Attached to this release is a photo of Danny Sheridan. The California Lightning Sprint Cars will be making their third 2008 appearance at The PAS on Saturday night. Former champion Brent Sexton of Lakeside, California and Stuart Hielscher Jr. of El Cajon have won in the series previous two sojourns into Riverside County. The California Lightning Sprint Cars have produced a bevy of USAC drivers including Mike Spencer, David Cardey, Johnny Bates, Tyler Brown and Darren Hagen.
Saturday’s showdown at The PAS will include qualifying, ten lap heat races, a 12-lap B main event and a double throw down tough 30-lap A main event for the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. The quick Lightning Sprints will contest heats, a B main and 20-lap A main. For the kids there will be the Big Wheel Heat Race and, of course, the popular PAS Dance Contest at intermission.
