WMX1 Riders Gear Up For MX1 Championship At Agueda

Team Teka Suzuki WMX1 and its hard working members are ready for the third round of the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship to be held at Agueda in Portugal this weekend.

With Steve Ramon and Ken De Dycker dominating each and every race so far this season, Suzuki are clear leaders of the manufacturer’s championship - on maximum points - with their revolutionary fuel-injected RM-Z450 while the Team Teka Suzuki WMX1 riders run first and second in the rider’s series.

A double moto winner in Holland and third on the podium in the deep mud of Spain, De Dycker currently holds the championship leader’s red plate with his factory RM-Z450 on 70 points and feels ready to increase his six point lead over team-mate Ramon.

“Agueda is a track that I’ve ridden well at in the past and I hope I can continue to do well there with Suzuki this year,” he explained. “Since the rain in Spain I’ve been back in Belgium training and riding in better weather to get ready for the race and I feel ready to do well.”

After winning his maiden MX1 GP in Spain, reigning MX1 World Champion Ramon enters the Portuguese round of the championship on a high and feels ready to attack for the series lead.

“In the past, races in Portugal have not gone so well for me so Agueda isn’t my favourite track, but it’s one like another,” said Ramon. “I know I can do well there this year and I’d like to close down Ken’s lead in the championship too, but he’s riding well at the moment and I know it won’t be easy.”

The Agueda circuit is situated 250 kilometres north east of the country’s capital of Lisbon and is well known for its unique red coloured dirt. The weather forecast for this weekend’s race is for strong sunshine, which will be welcomed after last weekend’s mud bath that Team Teka Suzuki WMX1’s owner Sylvain Geboers described as “the worst conditions I’ve ever seen at a motocross race.”
