Rossburg, OH—The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series drivers have one final tune-up this weekend at the famed Eldora Speedway in preparation for the 25th Annual Kings Royal in July. With $50,000 again on the line in the Kings Royal, teams will try a number of different combinations on Saturday, May 31 as they look for their perfect set-up for when they return to Eldora in July.
This will be the second visit of the season for the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series to the high-banked half-mile, with the winner set to take home $10,000. Craig Dollansky was victorious on April 11, as he overtook Donny Schatz on a lap 21 restart, after Joey Saldana who was leading, shredded a tire. Dollansky has six career wins at the track and is currently third in the World of Outlaws championship standings on the strength of 11 Top-10 finishes.
Donny Schatz, the two-time defending World of Outlaws champion and 2007 Kings Royal winner finished second last month at Eldora. He recently moved into the second spot in points as he chases his third consecutive title. He won earlier this month at Knoxville Raceway, to earn his first World of Outlaws win for Tony Stewart Racing.
Jason Meyers, the current series point leader finished eighth last month at Eldora. The native of Clovis, California has five A-Feature wins this season, including three on half-mile tracks. In the first 12 events of the season, he has 11 Top-10 finishes.
Joey Saldana enters the event on Saturday, May 31 fresh off a win at Eldora with the All Star Circuit of Champions last month. In his career, the native of Brownsburg, Indiana has 15 wins at the half-mile. He dominated the World of Outlaws event on April 11 before having the problem with his tire. Saldana is currently fourth in points as he chases his first World of Outlaws win of 2008.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion is the winningest driver in Eldora Speedway history, with 57 overall triumphs. He has 31 A-Feature wins with the World of Outlaws at the track, including his first career series win in the series inaugural 1978 season. The native of Bloomington, Indiana finished sixth last month with the World of Outlaws at the track after starting 21st, and also earned a Top-Five finish with the All Star Circuit of Champions at Eldora, during a break in the World of Outlaws schedule. He won the series most recent event on Memorial Day at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in New York and is fifth in points.
Jac Haudenschild is also one of the winningest drivers all-time at Eldora, with 23 victories. Of those, eight have been in World of Outlaws A-Feature events. He enters this weekend sixth in points, on the strength of six Top-10 finishes.
Kerry Madsen was fourth last month at Eldora, to earn his best-career finish at the venerable track. The reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner is currently seventh in points on the strength of eight Top-10 finishes driving for the Vermeer Motorsports team.
Terry McCarl was running in the Top-Five last month at Eldora, before he ran out of fuel with just a few laps remaining. The native of Altoona, Iowa ran strong last season at the track and finished in the Top-Five at the Kings Royal. He has five Top-10 finishes this season.
Chad Kemenah, a native of Findlay, Ohio has had a number of strong runs over the years at Eldora. The 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has racked up five Top-10 finishes to stare the 2008 campaign, with three of those being in the Top-Five. He was running in the Top-10 at Eldora last month before a flat tire ended his night.
