From the time a driver first hits the track at Attica Raceway Park for hot laps until the final checkered flag of the night flies, they have to have their ‘Elbows up’ and drive as hard as they can. The high-banked 1/3-mile provides some of the closest and toughest racing on the entire Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule.
The series will make their eighth visit to the track in Northern Ohio on Friday, May 30 for a 40-lap event that will see the winner take home $10,000.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series first competed at Attica Raceway Park in 1990 with 20-time series champion Steve Kinser picking up the win. He would win the following year as well, and is the only driver that has won more than one A-Feature event with the series at the track. He won his second A-Feature of the 2008 season on Monday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.
Joey Saldana won at Attica last season, taking the lead from Kinser late in the race. The native of Brownsburg, Indiana has a total of six career wins at the track. The second generation driver is currently fourth in championship points on the strength of 10 Top-10 finishes in 12 starts.
Chad Kemenah is the winningest driver at Attica that competes full-time with the World of Outlaws. The 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has 19 career wins at the high-banked track, with many of those coming in weekly competition, as well as with the All Star Circuit of Champions. The native of nearby Findlay, Ohio is currently ninth in points, with five Top-10 finishes this season.
Jason Meyers leads the World of Outlaws into Attica on the strength of five A-Feature wins in 12 starts. He finished fourth at the track last season and has four consecutive Top-10 finishes at the 1/3-mile. The California native has finished in the Top-10 in 11 of the first 12 events this season and holds a 28 point advantage in the season standings.
Donny Schatz, the two-time defending series champion has two career starts at Attica and has finished in the Top-10 in both of those. He is the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all 12 A-Feature events this season, and he is currently second in points as he chases his third consecutive series title.
Craig Dollansky won at Attica in 2000 and has finished in the Top-10 in both of his starts with the World of Outlaws at the track. He is currently third in points, with two A-Feature wins and 11 Top-10 finishes.
Jac Haudenschild, an Ohio native, has one career win at Attica. He enters this weekend sixth in championship points with six Top-10 finishes. He always runs strong on tight, high-banked tracks like Attica.
