Craig Dollansky who is second in points, just five markers behind Meyers has also won twice on half-miles, picking up wins at Volusia Speedway Park and Eldora Speedway. He has eight Top-10 finishes in nine starts and leads the Qwik Liner Cup, which awards points to the Top-Five drivers in time trials at each of the first 13 events of the 2008 season.
Donny Schatz, the two-time defending series champion earned his first win of the season on May 3 at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa, which is also a half-mile. In his first season driving for Tony Stewart Racing, Schatz is the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all nine events this season and is third in points, just seven points behind Meyers.
Joey Saldana driving the Kasey Kahne owned machine heads to Virginia Motor Speedway fourth in points, just 39 markers out of the lead. He has eight Top-10 finishes in the first nine events of the 2008 campaign, with five of those being in the Top-Five.
Jac Haudenschild who always excels on high-banked high speed tracks like Virginia Motor Speedway is sixth in points, on the strength of four Top-10 finishes. The veteran from Wooster, Ohio is in his first season driving for the Carnahan Motorsports team.
Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year is tied with Haudenschild in points, and has five Top-10 finishes to start his sophomore season with the series.
Terry McCarl, who is a six-time track champion at Knoxville Raceway and Huset’s Speedway, is ninth in points entering this weekend’s events, on the strength of four Top-10 finishes, with three of those being Top-Fives.
Daryn Pittman rounds out the Top-10 in points and has racked up five Top-10 finishes to start off the 2008 season.
Also in action at Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 24 will be 1999 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Tim Shaffer, along with Jason Sides the series top rookie in 2003, current rookie leader Lucas Wolfe of Pennsylvania, Shane Stewart, the rookie of the year in 2005, Kraig Kinser who wore the rookie crown in 2004 and sophomore driver Chad Hillier.
All the drivers will be chasing the $10,000 top prize and will be looking to put their name in the record books as the first World of Outlaws A-Feature winner at Bill Sawyer’s immaculate Virginia Motor Speedway.
