“I don’t know if I will be able to pay my truck driver any less money now he has the best truck on the road, but I will have the knowledge that he will be safe and doing some of those massive long-haul trips to places like Perth and Darwin in comfort and with a lot of style. “The trips will also be done more efficiently, which will help the team’s bottom line at the end of the day. ”

DaimlerChrysler Commercial Vehicle Managing Director Ken Matthews said he was more than happy to take the relationship with WPS Racing to the next level. “WPS is a team which is focused on excellence and results, and that is exactly what the Argosy Evolution is all about, ” Said Matthews.

“The V8 Supercars are hugely popular throughout Australia, so our relationship with WPS allows us to connect with a huge number of fans and these are people who know their vehicles and who appreciate high quality machinery. ” While the truck makes a fantastic statement combined with the B-Double trailers and painted in the team’s colours, it is its actual driver, Darryl Kruizinga, who is the most pleased with the extended partnership.

Kruizinga has all the creature comforts of home with air-conditioning, bed, fridge, television and even surround-sound at his disposal. More importantly, the Argosy Evolution has a range of safety features including an automated swing-out staircase for easy cabin access, a low dash and wide-view windscreen for unrivalled visibility, ABS brakes, traction control, and a semi-monocoque cab design for cabin integrity.

The dash is made of Oregon Burlwood gloss timber and the chrome instrument bezels make the interior of the cabin feel more like a motel room than a truck. Freightliner’s patented SmartShift™ combined with Eaton’s automated transmissions makes changing gears a breeze. SmartShift™ allows Kruzinga to keep his hands on the wheel and his eyes on the road at all times.

“It was like Christmas when our new Freightliner Argosy arrived at the race shop, ” said Kruzinga, who left for Perth on Saturday for round two of the V8 Supercar Championship Series this weekend. “The ride we have now is fantastic and this truck is certain to make life a little easier on the road. “I think some of the other V8 Supercar truck drivers are a little envious. ”

The Freightliner Argosy Evolution is the result of more than six years development and more than 100 upgrades and visual refinements on the previous model. WPS Racing has always been bold on the track and the Argosy Evolution’s new bolder, stronger exterior allows the team to extend that prominence to the road.

Argosy Evolution’s light aluminium cab coupled with a large range of design options provide the versatility which makes the Argosy Evolution the ideal truck for a variety of operations including single trailer, B-Double, B-Triple and Road train, along with other specialist tasks such as tipper, quad dog and rigid applications.
