Westfield’s Stephanie Mockler couldn’t imagine herself being busier.
The 20-year-old is a fitness advocate, third-generation open-wheel racer and full-time student at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
“It calms down once school starts, but my races take me farther from home,” Mockler said. “Racing is the most important to me.”
Her next national event is the midget race that kicks off the three-day Kroger SpeedFest July 24 at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Clermont. The five-eighths-mile oval was the scene of one of her most acclaimed races in 2006 as she finished third in only her second USAC national midget start.
Stephanie has been tutored by her father—former midget and sprint car driver Warren Mockler—throughout her years in quarter-midgets and Ford Focus races.
Under his guidance, she won 75 races in 350 starts in quarter-midgets before advancing to USAC races mostly at the Indianapolis Speedrome where he was a regional series title contender in 1983.
Warren’s father, Ed Mockler, raced SCCA sports cars on road courses and later helped him in his racing career.
She was the first female driver to win five USAC-sanctioned races and shares the title of USAC’s winningest female driver with California’s Audra Sasselli and Canada’s Alison MacLeod.
With all her experience in open-wheel racing, Mockler continues to build her resume so she can compete in NASCAR.
