Johnny Rodriguez to Take A 30-Point Lead in The USAC Western Midget Series

Johnny Rodriguez of Elk Grove, Calif. will take a 30-point lead in the USAC Western Midget Series standings to Saturday’s race at the Ventura (Calif. ) Raceway. Scott Pierovich ranks second, only four points ahead of Rodriguez’ car owner, Matt Mitchell.

Rodriguez scores his second straight series win Saturday night at American Valley Speedway in Quincy, Calif., leading the final six laps after passing lady driver Randi Pankratz on lap 25. Pankratz, who led the first 24 laps, finished second ahead of Ryan Kaplan, C.J. Sarna and Thomas Gray.

Troy Rutherford and Garrett Hansen have won the two USAC Western Midget races so far this year at the Ventura oval, but eyes will also be on Robby Flock, who is expected to make a run at his 53rd career series victory.
