The Utah Ford Focus Midget Car Series, after two years of preparation and exhibitions, will finally become a reality under the USAC banner Saturday when the first of 11 races takes place at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The race is to be run in conjunction this weekend with the USAC California Ford Focus Pavement Midget Car Series. Nine races at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah are scheduled, many coinciding with USAC s SLVRA Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series. The season finale is scheduled for Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
Series coordinator Bob Brewer, who also supports the series as a driver, will be among the favorites to take the series crown.
“I think we re going to have good series growth, and fully expect this to be one of the strongest regions in the country as far as car counts, ” said Brewer, one of eight car/driver combinations ready to hit the track from The Beehive State. “Our series is really marketed toward reaching the demographics of drivers that have aspired to race but haven t been able to afford to race until now. ”
One driver hoping to grab top points for both series is California Pavement point leader and defending series champion Tim Skoglund. The series has been idle since its debutant race March 10 at Havasu, where Skoglund notched the victory.
