Chasing his first Eagle Raceway feature win Saturday, Grossenbacher twice gave up big leads because of the caution flags. Then on the last restart, with eight laps to go, Grossenbacher slapped the fence hard, certainly hard enough to possibly destroy what to that point looked like a dominating win.
“It feels so awesome,” Grossenbacher said after holding off Mike Boston and Brad Krutz for the milestone win. “Three years, and I finally got one.”
Boston, a three-time winner this season, finished second but felt some frustration in not being able to take advantage of Grossenbacher’s wild ride. One lap after the leader hit the wall, Boston did the same, derailing his charge to the front.
That left Krutz to challenge, but he wasn’t close enough to pull alongside Grossenbacher on the final lap.
In the IMCA modifieds, Dylan Smith’s fourth straight Eagle win allowed the Osceola driver to tie Jordan Grabouski of Beatrice for the points lead. The two started side-by-side in row 6, and on lap 6 following a restart, they briefly battled for position before Smith shot into third.
