His nickname is the Thrill. Last Saturday night at Bridgeport Speedway, Jesse Hill from Barnsboro lived up to his moniker in the mid-season 25-lap Mr. 358 Sportsman Championship.
Most of Hill’s rivals, including early leaders John Cavallaro and Jarrad Miller, used the lower groove of the racetrack.
Hill, who started the feature in thirteenth, experimented with higher lanes and began to advance to the front of the field. By lap 12, he had moved into fourth place.
Following a caution and restart on lap 12, Hill motored to the runner-up spot behind Miller. On lap 14, Hill used his high line to scoot by Miller for the lead. Once in front, Hill survived two late cautions to gain his thirteenth career win and his third checkered flag of the year.
Veteran Ron Roberts finished in second place with third place claimed by Kevin Collins. Randy Yaple came home in fourth place while Travis Hill, younger brother of Jesse, wound up in fifth place. Miller crossed the finish line in fourth place but was disqualified for not making the minimum weight.
